London is the capital of the United Kingdom and of England and has been one of the greatest cities of Europe for centuries. It is the third stock exchange market in the world, after New York City and Tokyo, a centre of continuous research and innovation, as well as one of the main cities that has had an influence on the rest of the world when it comes to culture, communication, fashion, trends, policy, economy and art.
With a population of about 7,500,000 inhabitants, London is the most populated city in Europe and reaches about 12.5 million in the whole metropolitan area. Its inhabitants, as for the case of New York City, come from various different nationalities, religions and cultures: this makes it, therefore, one of the most cosmopolitan and linguistically most differentiated cities in the world. It has been noted that over 300 languages are actually spoken there. The predominant public core of London life is the City of Westminster (which also encompasses most of the so-called West End): it is the main cultural, entertainment and shopping neighbourhood, the centre of political life, as well as the headquarters of most of the main companies – from London and otherwise – operating in the financial and insurance sector.
In recent years, the growth of real estate values, which was also favoured by the strong interest of investors from all over the world, has made London one of the best markets for investment in the European and global scenery. London has been, is and will continue to be one of the main centres for business, tourism and culture, and it makes itself a secure rival of New York City for the title of world capital.
